IEW Writing & Composition
The Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) is an award-winning curriculum that has proven to be effective for reluctant, eager, beginning, and advanced writers. Interactive class activities, will help your child to master the structure and style techniques taught throughout the year. Class topics will include vocabulary, note-taking, summarizing, outlining, paragraph formation, essay construction, grammar, mechanics, usage, style techniques, literary elements, and more! There will be weekly homework. Individualized feedback will be given on assignments and students will have opportunities to present their writing in class.
*Prerequisite: Students must be able to write paragraphs.
Required Materials:
• Structure and Style for Students 1B-Student Binder ($35, available online or at Brighter Child in Fair Oaks)
• Binder Paper
• Writing Utensils (pencil w/ eraser, colored pen, highlighter)
Becky Rice graduated Cum Laude and on the Dean’s List with Bachelor degrees in French & Communications, with a minor emphasis in International Studies, from Sonoma State University. She obtained her teaching credentials in English, Journalism, Speech/Debate, and French from California State University, Sacramento. She is an accredited IEW teacher. She has taught these subjects for over 20 years in public and private schools. She loves homeschooling, writing, and exploring the world; language is her method and passion! Teaching children and teens is her favorite. Join her to embark upon this exciting adventure of learning to enjoy writing skillfully.
All classes are full-year classes. Students enrolled in a Fall Semester class will automatically enroll for the Spring Semester in December to ensure their place in the class. Pricing is per semester.
