Welcome to Astronomy, where we embark on an exciting journey through the cosmos to explore the wonders of the universe! In this dynamic class, students will delve into the mysteries of space, from the inner workings of our solar system to the farthest reaches of the cosmos. Through engaging lessons, hands-on activities, and interactive observations, students will develop a deep understanding of celestial objects, phenomena, and the fundamental principles of astronomy.

Astronomy offers a comprehensive exploration of the universe, covering topics ranging from the structure of galaxies, to the formation of stars and planets. Through a combination of scientific inquiry, mathematical analysis, and observational skills, students will investigate the following key areas:

  • Introduction to Astronomy

  • The Solar System

  • Stars and Stellar Evolution

  • Galaxies and Cosmology

  • Exoplanets and Astrobiology

Astronomy combines lectures, discussions, hands-on activities, and outdoor observations to engage students in active learning about the cosmos. From stargazing to building model solar systems, students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in a variety of contexts, fostering a sense of wonder and curiosity about the universe.

Learning Objectives

By the end of Astronomy, students will:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental concepts and principles of astronomy.

  • Identify and describe the characteristics of celestial objects and phenomena, including stars, planets, galaxies, and black holes.

  • Apply mathematical and scientific reasoning to analyze astronomical data, such as stellar spectra, planetary orbits, and cosmological models.

  • Demonstrate observational skills through telescopic observations, sky mapping, and star charting exercises.

  • Cultivate a sense of wonder, curiosity, and appreciation for the beauty and complexity of the universe.

Join me on this cosmic quest as we journey through the vast expanse of space, unlock the mysteries of the cosmos, and expand our horizons with Astronomy!
